Role Snapshot

Our Senior Benefits Specialist is responsible for leading the administration and support of our employee benefit programs spanning all lines of business. This Specialist will act as a subject matter expert, guiding employees through benefit options, handling escalated inquiries, and assisting in benefits strategy and compliance. They will also support the design and implementation of benefits programs, working closely with leadership to enhance the overall benefits experience for employees.

Salary Range

$85,000 ~ $95,000

The base pay offered for this position may vary within the posted range based on your job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Hybrid Work Location

This position will be hybrid, having the regional availability to come in our Office two days a week. Our office location: WPS Corporate Center Building - 1717 W. Broadway in Madison, WI.

  • Can ensure compliance with policies and procedures for benefits enrollment and eligibility management.
  • Like providing in-depth benefits consultation to employees, addressing complex inquiries, resolving issues, and helping employees navigate their benefits options.
  • Have supported the management of external benefits vendors (i.e., EAP and retirement providers) to ensure service quality and resolve any issues or discrepancies that arise.
  • Can monitor regulatory changes impacting benefits programs.
  • Want to assist in maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local benefits regulations (i.e., ERISA, COBRA, ACA, etc.) and can prepare regular compliance and benefits utilization reports for management.
  • Enjoy identifying and recommending process improvements for benefits administration.
  • Have worked with cross-functional teams to streamline procedures and ensure timely processing of benefits-related transactions.
  • Thrive when leading key aspects of employee onboarding and annual open enrollment processes, including employee communications, benefits selection, and system updates.
  • Would like to provide support and guidance to employees during enrollment periods.
  • Have created and distribute materials for benefit education, open enrollment, and program changes.
  • Can ensure employees are well-informed about available benefits options and any plan modifications.
  • Like working closely with the HR team, payroll, and other departments to ensure smooth integration and delivery of benefits services.
  • Can analyze benefits-related data, including usage trends, claims, and costs, to provide insights and recommendations for plan improvements and cost management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 or more years of experience in benefits administration, with demonstrated expertise in handling more complex benefits matters.
  • Strong understanding of employee benefits programs and compliance requirements (ERISA, COBRA, ACA).
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with employees, vendors, and leadership.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and proficiency with HRIS or benefits administration software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong experience working in Health Insurance and or Government Contracting environments.
  • Experience working with UKG, Costpoint.
