A lead teacher for toddlers is responsible for the academic, social-emotional, and physical development of children in their care. They work with parents, administrators, and other teachers to create a positive learning environment and meet the needs of the children.
Duties
Here are some responsibilities of a lead teacher:
- Curriculum
- Plan and implement a curriculum that's developmentally appropriate for the children's age and needs
- Learning environment
- Design and maintain a safe and clean classroom that's organized and meets the children's changing needs
- Child development
- Observe and assess children's development and progress, and communicate their needs to parents
- Activities
- Supervise children during activities and help them with personal hygiene skills
- Safety
- Ensure the safety of children at all times, including on the playground and in common areas
- Communication
- Work with parents and other teachers to improve the children's experience and meet teaching objectives
- Teamwork
- Mentor and supervise other staff to foster a team environment and ensure everyone is on the same page
Lead teachers should have skills in patience, organization, and time management. They should also be flexible and able to adapt to changing conditions quickly.
