What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Teacher position at WSI?
Job Purpose: Direct learning activities of children according to the general guidelines of developmentally appropriate practice, as well as general supervision and management of the classroom environment.
Qualifications:
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Must be capable of bending, crouching or kneeling to children's level
- Must be able to reach at and above shoulder height
- Must be capable of frequent changes of positions throughout the work shift
- Must have a minimum of a CDA certificate or working on one
- Must have appropriate patience and demeanor to work with multiple children in one setting
Knowledge of Curriculum:
- Familiarize and understand, as well as implement the curriculum through activities based on developmentally appropriate practice
- Create and post weekly lesson plans
- Participate in staff development activities and planning meetings as required by the Director and licensing
- Plan special activities, such as field trips and parties, as appropriate and as they relate to the curriculum
- Meet check points for Brigance/know when due.
- Keep portfolio information updated in Procare/Brigance.
Knowledge of Children:
- Assist children with feeding, toileting and personal care (tying shoes, wiping noses, etc.) as appropriate
- Ensure the safety and security of children at all times
- Be alert and make modifications to daily activities to best meet social, emotional, physical and mental needs of each child
- Maintain visual supervision of all children in your care at all times
- Understand and implement the outlined center discipline policy
- Observe and document significant individual and/or group behavior
- Document and suspected child abuse or neglect and alert Director and the childcare hotline
Parents:
- Display a friendly, welcoming attitude toward parents and families
- Communicate to parents that you are available daily to respond to questions and concerns
- Communicate both positive and troubled behaviors. Not all messages should be about negative things.
- Be main communicator on Procare and communicate with assistant on what to input
