What are the responsibilities and job description for the GSRP Assistant Teacher position at Y Center of Battle Creek?
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Positively impacts the community though youth engagement and education while strengthening the outward reputation of the good work done at the Y.
This position will provide care and supervision of children daily while working alongside other teaching staff to further the development of every child in the program by teaching academic and social-emotional skills to 4 and 5-year-old children in a school setting. Teachers plan and implement a healthy, safe, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for pre-school children that promote developmental gains toward the attainment of kindergarten readiness skills as defined in the GSRP Implementation Manual.
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
· Plan, administer, and direct the management of the HighScope curriculum, family activities program, instructional services for the GSRP program Collect ASQs and other assessments.
· Employee is required to make an immediate verbal report to DHS Child Protective Services and follow with a written report within 72 hours with any suspected child abuse or neglect.
· Provide appropriate, positive behavioral guidance to children and always treat each child with dignity and respect at all times, even if you are redirecting or correcting them.
· Be aware of; know how to prevent, and how to properly handle all children with food allergies and other health situations.
· Be able to stand for extended periods of time, sit on the ground, bend, lift up to 50 lbs, & be able to get on the level of the child.
· Work in partnership with other agencies for the good of individual students.
· Participate in the recruitment and retention of students, with a goal of up to 18 students.
· Plan and conduct regularly scheduled parent advisory and/or playgroups.
· Facilitate positive communication and good working relationships with parents, community partners, and GSRP and CISD staff – especially your classroom’s Early Childhood Specialist.
· Ensure proper supervision of children at all times including, but not limited to: in the classroom, on the playground or outside, at toilet times, in all other areas outside of classroom.
· Post a schedule with daily written lesson plans, with each staff assigned to specific duties. Send home a weekly newsletter to parents informing them of the classroom activities.
· Attend all mandatory meetings, conferences, and professional development trainings.
· Other duties as assigned.
Education and Qualifications:
- An associate degree in early childhood education or child development or the equivalent; or
- A valid Center Based Preschool CDA credential or,
- An existing 120 hour approval with no break in GSRP work experience
