Job Description:
Yahara Materials, South Central Wisconsin's leading aggregate producer, construction contractor and mining company, is seeking to employ a Technician for its established Aggregate Materials Laboratory, in Waunakee, WI. The Aggregate Lab Technician will be responsible for conducting laboratory testing on aggregate materials to ensure compliance with industry standards and specifications. S/he candidate will have a strong understanding of testing procedures, excellent analytical skills, and a commitment to accuracy and quality assurance.
Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of laboratory tests on aggregate materials, including sieve analysis, specific gravity, absorption, abrasion, and moisture content testing, according to ASTM and AASHTO standards.
- Conduct routine quality control tests on incoming aggregate materials to verify compliance with specifications and requirements and document test results accurately and maintaining detailed records.
- Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results, troubleshooting issues and performing routine maintenance as needed.
- Analyze test results and data, identifying trends, anomalies, and deviations from established standards, and communicate findings to relevant stakeholders.
- Prepare detailed reports summarizing test results, findings, and recommendations, ensuring accuracy and completeness of documentation for regulatory compliance and internal record-keeping purposes.
- Adhere to safety protocols and procedures in the laboratory, including proper handling of hazardous materials, use of personal protective equipment, and maintenance of a clean and organized work environment.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, efficiency gains, and contribute to the development and implementation of best practices and quality improvement initiatives.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, quality assurance, and engineering, to support ongoing operations, troubleshoot issues, and ensure alignment between laboratory testing and production goals.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering Technology, Materials Science, or related field; relevant certifications or training in aggregate testing preferred.
- 2 years of experience working in a laboratory setting, preferably in the aggregate or construction materials industry, with a focus on materials testing and quality control.
- Strong understanding of laboratory testing procedures and equipment used in aggregate testing, including sieves, scales, ovens, and moisture meters.
- Familiarity with ASTM and AASHTO standards for aggregate testing, including sieve analysis, specific gravity, absorption, and abrasion testing methods.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in conducting tests, recording data, and preparing reports.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data analysis software for generating reports and analyzing test results.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Commitment to safety, quality assurance, and continuous improvement in laboratory operations.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $22.00 - $28.00 per hour
