You will empower parents to develop effective parenting skills, enhance their understanding of child development, and create nurturing and safe environments for their children.

The Parent Coach will primarily work in the home of the person receiving services or community-based settings. Some evening and weekend hours may be required to accommodate parents' schedules. Travel within the community may be necessary to meet with parents or attend relevant meetings.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized coaching and support to parents with I/DD who have been involved with CPS, tailoring interventions to their unique needs and circumstances.
  • Assist parents in developing and implementing effective parenting strategies, focusing on areas such as communication, discipline, emotional regulation, and self-care.
  • Conduct assessments to identify strengths, challenges, and areas for growth in the parenting skills of individuals with I/DD.
  • Collaborate with parents to set goals and develop personalized parenting plans that align with their values and aspirations.
  • Deliver parenting education and training, utilizing a variety of instructional methods and resources.
  • Help parents understand and respond to their children's needs, providing guidance on child development, behavior management, and positive parent-child interactions.
  • Advocate for parents' rights and needs within the CPS system and connect them with relevant community resources and services.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of parent progress, assessments, and interventions.
  • Stay updated on current research, best practices, and emerging trends in parenting support and disability services.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field such as social work, psychology, or special education is preferred.
  • Previous experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities also preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport, demonstrate empathy, and effectively convey information to parents.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively.
  • Non-judgmental and compassionate approach, respecting the diversity and individuality of parents and their families.
  • Cultural sensitivity and awareness of the impact of intersectionality in parenting experiences.
  • Proficiency in record keeping and documentation.

If you are passionate about supporting parents with I/DD, empowering them to enhance their parenting skills and create nurturing environments for their children, we invite you to apply for the position of Parenting Coach.
