What are the responsibilities and job description for the Melt Deck Operator position at YAMAHA MOTOR?
PURPOSE AND SCOPE
The Melt Deck Operator is responsible for pouring molten steel into an investment cast molding using both manual and automatic pouring processes. Melt Deck Operators also control the temperature of the steel when melting, read the temperature and specific instructions for each pour, remove slag from the pot prior to pouring, and assist with monitoring and maintaining all machinery in the foundry. Additionally, Melt Deck Operators will participate in canning, pushing, and pulling, lifting and carrying, cut-off and working with an autoclave.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Read traveler document to verify which part is being poured and what metal is used for each order
- Add new and recycled steel to pot to prepare for molten pour
- Manual pour – operator will lift the pot with assistance from a second operator, and carefully pour the molten steel into the casting
- Automated pour - operator ensures automatic equipment correctly pours molten steel into the casting
- Understands and executes proper pot and launderer rebuilding
- Complete paperwork associated with parts and VIP
- Clean equipment and work area after completing shift
- Wears PPE at all times on the melt deck in a constantly changing climate
- Able to move at a productive pace and multitask while rotating different roles throughout the shift.
- Understands the melting process
- Keeps safety a top priority and is willing to follow all instructions precisely to ensure safety of all pour operators
- Additional duties as assigned to support the business needs
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or GED/High School Equivalency
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Basic math, language, and reasoning ability
- Ability to read gauges pertaining to temperature and alarms
- Ability to stand and hold 40 pound parts and lift them to a shoulder level height
- Ability to pass a basic physical exam, respirator fit test, and breathing test
- Ability to work in the red zone if pouring (must not have any medical implants, pacemakers, or internal defibrillators or metallic foreign objects within the body
- Must be able to work in 90 degree environment
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen
- Ability to pass random drug screens
