Job Summary
Yarde Metals is looking for a material handler to join our Operations Team in Southington, CT. A material handler moves material throughout the warehouse by safely operating a forklift, side loader, and overhead crane. The material handler selects material according to work order instructions and prepares for delivery.
Responsibilities
- SAFETY FIRST!
- Retrieve material from the inventory racking system according to work ticket, while verifying the location, size, alloy, quantity, and heat/lot #.
- Safely operate powered industrial vehicles such as forklifts, side loaders, and overhead cranes.
- Verify location and material by comparing order to inventory tags.
- Transport and locate material into the inventory racking system.
- Record and report any inventory discrepancies.
- Measure material using calipers, micrometers, and tape measures.
- Conduct a final inspection to ensure the correct material was pulled for machine operators.
- Prepare orders for shipping using strapping equipment and applying appropriate shipping tags.
- Construct crates, skids, and boxes using powered hand tools and measuring equipment.
- Tag and return material drops from processed jobs into appropriate locations.
- Stage orders in appropriate shipping and loading zones for delivery.
- Perform additional warehouse duties as directed by supervisor.
Requirements & Qualifications
***This is a SAFETY SENSITIVE position: requires operating heavy machinery.***
- High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
- Warehouse, material handling, and forklift experience preferred.
- Must be able to read, understand, and carry out work instructions in English.
- Basic arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions required.
- Must be able to read and understand basic measurement functions (ruler, caliper, etc.)
- Ability to pass a human performance evaluation to meet physical requirements of the job (lifting up to 70 lbs., pushing, pulling, etc.)
