Yes For Chess is looking to hire a Teacher Support Specialist to join our team!
The Teacher Support Specialist supports operations in our main office while working
with students in the afternoon at schools near the Palo Alto area and sometimes
the San Bruno area. New hire is expected to work 12 to 15 hours per week.
At Yes For Chess, we use chess to teach children problem-solving, planning, and
patience in an after-school setting. We are looking for individuals to join our team
of instructors who teach chess fundamentals to elementary school students.
Some tasks of the Teacher Support Specialist:
- Answer parent questions about our program (email & phone)
- Record and maintain databases
- Assist with hiring and staff orientation
- Work with students ages 6-11 to learn the fundamentals of chess
- Oversee student safety and the parent pick-up process at a school campus
- You are not required to be great at chess! If you enjoy chess and are willing to
experience working with youth, preferably elementary-aged students, such as
tutoring, volunteering, or other verifiable experiences.
The Teacher Support Specialist part-time position starts at $20 to $23 an hour.
Partial compensation is provided for miles driven to school sites.
This position is also eligible for our retirement plan.
Ideal candidates for a Teacher Support Specialist:
- Can commit 12 hours per week during the school year
- Can pass a background check
- Able to drive to different school locations and the main office in Fremont
- Responsible with confidential records
- Experience with Google Workspace (Drive, Docs, Sheets) and Microsoft Office
- Experience working with youth ages 6-11 (tutor, volunteering, etc.)
- Being able to continue working in the 2026-27 school year is a plus!
