What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard - Phifer Family YMCA position at YMCA of Catawba Valley?
General Function:
Under the general direction of the Aquatics Coordinator and consistent with the Christian mission and the policies and procedures set forth by the YMCA of Catawba Valley, the Lifeguard is responsible for the safety and well being of all patrons entering the aquatic facility.
Know How:
- Current certification in lifeguarding, first aid and safety, and CPR.
- Knowledge of emergency policies and procedures for the facility.
- Knowledge and enforcement of pool rules and regulations.
- Understanding of risk management issues and safety requirements for the facility.
- Must have good communication skills.
Primary Responsibilities:
The Lifeguard will be responsible for:
- Providing prompt and proper care for persons in need.
- Providing a safe, clean, and attractive aquatic facility.
- Adhering to and maintaining the pool rules and regulations.
- Carrying out the proper emergency policies and procedures.
- Adhering to and maintaining the employee’s code of conduct and safety policies and procedures.
- The cleanliness of the aquatic facility, restrooms, deck, and surrounding areas.
- Reporting to work promptly.
- Being well-groomed at all times and reporting to work properly dressed.
- Any other duties assigned by the Operations Director or Executive Director.
Physical Requirements:
- Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility. Candidates must understand that significant background noise exists in all indoor and outdoor aquatic environments. In addition, lifeguard candidates should have a minimum hearing threshold of no more than an average of a 25-decibel loss in both ears over a range of frequencies (500Hz, 1000Hz, 2000Hz, 788 and 3000Hz). Candidates who use hearing aids or other corrective devices for hearing should be able to perform all rescue skills and emergency procedures without interruptions to adjust, retrieve, or install or attach a hearing aid or corrective device.
- Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.
- Meet strength and lifting requirements.
- Observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility. Candidates who use corrective eyewear should be able to perform all rescue skills and emergency procedures without interruptions to adjust, clear, or retrieve corrective eyewear.
