Intern- Unpaid Internship

Brief Description

Position Summary:

The internship position provides educational and development opportunities for individuals to work at the YMCA in order to gain business and operational experience. Individuals will gain knowledge and skills which transfer to competencies for their future employment. Duties and responsibilities vary based on assignment and needs of the YMCA department or project.

This internship is educational, and it is unpaid in compliance with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines for unpaid internships.

Essential Functions:

• Demonstrates behaviors and actions consistent with YMCA core values and mission.
• Performs duties and responsibilities as outlined for the specific assignment.
• Participates in training and application of skills necessary to perform assigned duties and responsibilities.
• Communicates with identified internship supervisor reporting on progress, making recommendations, preparing reports, etc.
• Obtains feedback from internship supervisor to enhance skill development.
• Develops relationships with center staff and volunteers.
  
  

Intern Focus Areas:

Brand Experience: Assist in content creation and updating YMCA of Greater Houston website and emails. Participate in social media daily monitoring including but not limited to updating copy and graphics.

Qualifications:

• Minimum age of 18.
• High school graduate or equivalency. College course work related to assignment or project.
• Basic computer proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work with a diverse population.
• Commitment to fulfill scheduled hours to accomplish assigned duties and tasks.
• Willingness to learn and ask questions to enhance the development process.
  
  

Physical Demands:

Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations (depending upon the programs). Ability to travel to various locations throughout the Greater Houston Area.
