The YMCA of Indiana County provides childcare services for children of it's members while they use the Y facility. Under the direction of the Child Watch Coordinator and/or the Director of Youth and Family Programs or other assigned staff, the Child Watch staff will conduct babysitting services in compliance with all applicable codes and in accordance with YMCA of the USA guidelines. Also demonstrates a commitment to YMCA Core Values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
Experience and Education Requirements
- At least 6 months of experience providing care for children.
- A high school diploma or equivalent or working toward graduation.
Responsibilities
- Provides childcare services in a safe manner.
- Interacts and engages children in play and/or learning activities in accordance with the YMCA of the US Child Watch Program, adapted where necessary in local conditions.
- Changing diapers and/or toileting.
- Maintains appropriate communication through established guidelines.
- Maintains accurate record keeping and documentation.
- Demonstrates good judgement and maintains professionalism in times of stress.
This position also covers other programs within the Youth and Family Department to provide staff support for weekend birthday parties and family events.
Physical Requirements
- Working with participants in a program or instructional setting (standing, kneeling, walking.)
- Position requires lifting at least 35 pounds on a regular basis.
- Position requires reaching above the shoulders, bending at the waist, squatting, kneeling, and sitting on the floor depending on the activities scheduled.
- Individuals must be able to work on a variety of surfaces including cement floors, tile floors, carpeted floors, mulch, wood, and rubberized surfaces.

Additional Information:
- Must submit a PA Criminal Clearance, PA Child Abuse Clearance, FBI Clearance prior to hire.
- Must complete and provide proof of successful completion of the PA Mandated Reporting Training within 30 days of hire.
- Must obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification with 30 days of hire. (able to be obtained through the YMCA).
