General Function
The Day Camp Unit Lead will be responsible for the supervision, implementation, and development of activity plans for a group of children, including assisting in the child’s social, emotional, physical, spiritual, and cognitive development.
Education/Experience/Training/Certifications
At minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent is required (18 years of age)
Experience working with youth preferred, not required
Documentation of DHS clearance prior to starting work, and CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Safe certifications are required within 60 days
Completion of Blood Borne Pathogens training, Redwoods, and concussion trainings as required
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Assists in overall camp management
Serves as a role model for all youth participating in the day camp program
Ensures a safe and nurturing environment by attending to the needs of campers at all times
Assumes equal responsibility of general housekeeping tasks. This includes bagging trash, campsite cleanup, and bus cleanup
Establishes and maintains a positive relationship with all coworkers, YMCA staff, YMCA members, program participants and the general public
Consciously creates a climate in camp to foster the goals and objectives of the YMCA
Responsible for lesson plan development (weekly) and implementation of the weekly plans with a group of children
Directly supervises day camp counselors and Jr. counselors, and leads program activities throughout the day
Performs other assigned duties as directed by Supervisor
Abilities & Skills
Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
Ability to plan, lead and participate in all physical activities
Ability to sit and stand from a seated position on the floor when interacting with children.
Capability to be outside participating for the majority of the day.
Ability to Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical situations and behavior management, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
