What are the responsibilities and job description for the Weekend Lifeguard position at YMCA of Natrona County?
Available Shifts:
Friday evenings between 5 pm and 8 pm, Saturday's 9:00am-3:00pm, and Sundays 12:00pm-4:00pm
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Lifeguards create a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and promotes safety in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
2. Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations
immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
3. Enforces all pool rules and regulations promptly and professionally; notifies the appropriate
staff member of any inappropriate behavior.
4. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, guidelines and
program standards for the pool and aquatics area.
5. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the health department code.
6. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
7. Assists with the general maintenance and upkeep of the aquatics facility.
8. Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.
9. Identifies and celebrates the successes of members and program participants.
10. Actively participates in department and branch meetings and/or trainings.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must be at least 16 years of age
2. Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness
3. Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA and Red Cross standards
4. Ability to work independently with attention to detail required
5. Current Red Cross Lifeguard including first aid, CPR and AED (provided by YMCA, if needed)
6. Complete trainings: YMCA cause & culture training; Aquatics-specific training; Child
Abuse Prevention Training
7. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments
of the community and successful clearance of background check

Recreational environment; aquatics facility. While performing the essential functions of this job the employee must physically perform all skills of a lifeguard including but not limited to hearing noises & distress signals; seeing and observing all of assigned zone; and is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, crouch and remain alert with no lapses of consciousness. Intermittent use of pool to respond to safety needs and participate in in-service training. Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions required.
