POSITION SUMMARY:

The Accountant plays an integral role in the monthly financial closing process for the YMCA of Southwest Florida, Inc., including all branches, program centers, and the SKY Academy charter schools. This will include preparing assigned and additional journal entries as needed. Assisting in the preparation of internal financial statements and preparing account analysis and reconciliation functions. In addition, this position will be responsible for supporting financial and internal audits of the financial transactions and books for the Y. This position will prepare assigned task in a timely manner with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail to help ensure accuracy and integrity of the financial records. This position will assist in developing and maintaining strong internal controls over financial transactions. This position supports the operations of the Y including the charter schools. Therefore, will be called upon to work together and support the needs of the operating departments of the association.

This position works with the Controller and CFO and other executive-level team members to provide support for YMCA finance and business operations.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Support and assist in the monthly closing of the books for the YMCA and the related charter schools according to applicable accounting standards.
  • Assist in preparation of monthly and annual financial statements.
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations, bank reconciliations and account analyses.
  • Assure proper revenue recognition standards are applied for contributions, grants and other various types of funding for Y programs and services.
  • Track the financial transactions to account for expenditures and revenues related to grants (Grants Tracking) and other donor restricted revenues.
  • Support the annual and special audits by providing supporting documents and analysis requested by auditors in a timely manner.
  • Analyzing current and past financial data and performance by organizing and evaluating data from a range of sources
  • Preparing internal reports, dashboards and projections
  • Identifying trends in financial performance and providing recommendations for improvement
  • Support the annual budgeting and monthly/rolling forecasting processes as assigned.
  • Coordinating with other members of the finance team around financial best practices
  • Attend Operations team meetings to support their needs related to financial activity of their respective areas.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of current accounting standards (GAAP, FASB, GASB) and apply those standards in daily accounting tasks.
  • Assist in the development and adherence to accounting policies and procedures.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance or equivalent.
  • Two or more years of experience in accounting, nonprofit experience is preferred.
  • High level analytical and accounting skills
  • Knowledge of computer systems, including strong experience with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent time management and organizational ability
  • Ability to multitask and meet constant deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Must have strong integrity and ability to work with confidential matters.
  • Must be able to meet the associations background screening requirements

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completion of YMCA of the USA Child Abuse and Neglect class
  • Completion of the YMCA’s Blood Borne Pathogens training
  • Staff Safety Requirements/Cleaning Protocols
  • Additional training classes as recommended by Supervisor
