POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Our Youth Sports Program Staff will contribute to the Y’s mission by providing a safe, non-competitive, and enjoyable sporting experience for your assigned group of aspiring athletes while teaching them individual and team game skills and rules, sportsmanship, fair play, and character values. The Sports Program Staff provide an environment of learning, high energy, positive attitude, and above all FUN for all participants in the youth sports program clinics. This is accomplished through building relationships and actively engaging with parents, volunteer coaches and participants. Essential functions include; providing instruction/coaching on the respective sport, instructional refereeing, supporting volunteer coaches in the execution of curriculum and activities, and ensuring the facilities and equipment are prepared and safe.We are looking for Volleyball players to help in a Spokane Public Schools Volleyball Clinic over winter break. Date of the clinic are Dec. 19th - 22nd and 27th - 29th. Time and location of clinics are TBD.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assists or leads fun youth sports clinics.
2. Set up and take down equipment.
3. Provide fun life skills support to program participants.
4. Be an active listener pre clinic, during the clinic, and post clinic.
5. Relate to and effectively communicate with youth, ages 4-13.
6. Provide a quality experience for members, participants, staff, and others.
7. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Report incidents and accidents to supervisor as necessary.
8. Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
9. Emotion Management-support youth in becoming aware of and constructively handling both positive and challenging emotions.
10. Empathy-work with youth to relate to others with acceptance, understanding, and a sensitivity to diverse perspectives and experiences.
11. Personal Development- encourage youth to act, persist, and initiate goals and outcomes even through the ups-and- downs of difficult situations and challenges.
12. Relationship Building-foster experiences where you plan, collaborate, and coordinate action with others.
13. Responsibility- develop youth to be reliable and committed and to fulfill obligations and challenging roles.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Experience in playing or coaching sports, and it able to teach gross motor skills
2. Certifications in CPR/First Aid, BBP/AED, Child Abuse Prevention/Harassment within 60 days of employment.
3. Provide own transportation to various YMCA branches.
4. Holds great interpersonal and communication skills.
5. Ability to work flexible hours according to the needs of the program; primarily evenings and weekends.
6. Effectively models the core values of the YMCA; Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
7. Minimum age of 16.

STARTING PAY: $16/hr
