JOB DESCRIPTION: Gymnastics Instructor, YMCA of Wayne County
JOBTITLE: Gymnastics Instructor
OBJECTIVE: To provide instruction to children in the recreational gymnastics program that is consistent with the mission of the YMCA of Wayne County
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
1. Reports to: Gymnastics Director
2. Works directly with: Other Gymnastics Instructors and Head Coaches
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The gymnastics instructor provides instruction to preschool and progressive gymnastics classes.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
1. Teach and develop gymnasts in the preschool and progressive classes.
2. Prepares lessons that include stretching and drills for specific skills that pertain to the level of class, as well as flexibility and strength stations for the preschool and progressive classes.
3. Maintain a fun and safe gymnastics experience, including correcting skills through constant interaction with the gymnasts, as well as including positive feedback to the gymnasts.
4. Maintain an energetic, positive environment that encourages learning and the love of gymnastics.
5. Maintain control over the gymnasts and encourage listening and following the rules to remain safe while doing gymnastics.
6. Attends staff meetings pertinent to his or her position.
7. Maintain accurate accounting of attendance in all classes.
8. Complete evaluations for each gymnast to be passed out the last class of each session.
9. Monitor gymnastics equipment for safety, maintenance, and replacement needs.
10. Fill out accident reports if necessary.
11. Report any incidents in classes that might result in a parent or child concern.
12. Arrive to work 15 minutes prior to class to set up the lesson for class and remain until the last gymnast leaves and clean up the gymnastics area afterwards.
13. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
1. Ability to work with children of all ages, but primarily from ages 3 through 12
2. Understanding of gymnastics
3. Ability to think creatively and with an open mind with regard to programming and instruction
4. Ability to communicate effectively, establish rapport with participants and their parents, be a team player in the organization, and exercise good judgement
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
1. Knowledge of gymnastics and gymnastics experience
2. Experience working with children in a recreation and/or instructional setting, preferred.
3. First Aid and CPR Certification.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Work is primarily on the gym floor
2. Work requires standing, walking, bending, spotting, lifting, repetitive motion, and intense concentration.
WORK SCHEDULE
Work schedule will vary depending on needs of program. Work hours will primarily be during the late afternoon/early evening during the week, and in the morning on Saturdays. Regular days off will include holidays that YMCA of Wayne County is closed. Instructors must be able to work weekends and evening hours as necessary or required by programming.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $10.10 - $11.00 per hour
