What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time STEM Educator position at YMWIC Foundation, Inc.?
The Part-Time STEM Educator position is NOT a virtual position. This position will be required to administer and teach STEM education workshops after school at our sites located in the Counties of Chester, Montgomery, Delaware and Philadelphia.
Out-of-School Hours: 4pm - 6 pm or 6 pm – 8 pm several days a week, on the site to administer evening STEM related workshops in the counties of Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia to 3rd - 12th grade students. some weekend work hours are available in West Chester from 10am - 1pm. May require some curriculum development virtually (up to 20 hrs. per week)
In-School Hours: In some schools, candidate will administer STEM related workshops during the 3PM - 6PM timeframe on several days per week.
Young Men and Women In Charge (YMWIC) Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit organization founded in 2007 designed to support and expose youth in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education. Through academic tutoring and mentoring, we support and empower students grades who are economically disadvantaged or underrepresented. Funding is provided through grants, private donors, and financial assistance programs.
We have a unique opportunity for part-time Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Educators who are passionate about STEM and has experiences working with elementary, middle school and high school aged children in the classroom and/or before and after school programs.
This position is ideal for new or seasoned teachers looking to break into the STEM field, substitute teachers, retired teachers or retired scientist, engineers or technologist who want to work part-time, or other individuals who may be qualified and have work experience in the STEM fields.
Candidates will be responsible to physically administer and teach STEM related workshops in an after-school setting within our partnering school districts in Montgomery, Chester, Delaware and Philadelphia Counties.
Responsibilities
- Create lesson plans that will be used for hands-on workshops in chemistry, physics, biology, computer science or engineering topics.
- Leads or executes engineering, chemistry, biology, physics, robotics & computer programming activities (afterschool programs, and camps) with children.
- Participates in community outreach to increase brand awareness, referrals and enrollment within YMWIC program placement.
Qualifications
- Must have a four year college degree or equivalent experience
- must have reliable transportation and be able to get to workshops on time
- Must have a "can-do" attitude.
- Able to work in a fast-changing environment.
- Ability to create and maintain positive relationships with parents, children, co-workers and clients.
- Understanding of basic scientific and/or engineering principles.
- Must be eager to learn, create, and be very comfortable with technology.
- Ability to work several evenings during the week and some weekends within several school districts within Chester and Delaware Counties.
- Must have prior experience working with children.
- Knowledge of computer programming is a plus.
- Should have knowledge of the education industry and / or experience in school administration, non-profit organizations or in other areas such as day care, camps, or after-school programs.
- Must demonstrate a high level of professionalism and the ability produce a high-quality product.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is helpful.
Work Environment
- Programs are lively and rigorous. Candidates must be able to sustain a high level of energy.
- Must be able to stand up to 95% of the of the time during the administration of the workshop. During that time, activities may require bending or stooping to work along with the children, and to perform other activities that may require physical activity.
- Must possess acceptable hearing and visual abilities to monitor environment and children's well-being.
- Must be flexible to work in various locations.
