What are the responsibilities and job description for the Landscape Technician position at York County?
Responsible for ornamental horticulture to include planting and maintaining ornamental plants such as seasonal flowers, shrubs, and trees at park sites, tourist sites, roadway sites, and other County facilities. Performs manual labor, semi-skilled and technical work in landscape maintenance and/or construction and maintenance of County grounds and facilities. Must also be able to use the INFOR computer work order system. Serves as a lead worker assisting in the training and direction of entry-level seasonal employees. Operates a variety of hand and power tools to perform landscaping, construction, and custodial duties.High school graduate or equivalent and 2-3 years of related experience, or any combination of education and experience.
Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with good driving record mandatory.
Must be licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Certified Pesticide Applicator (State Category 3a and 3b), or must have the ability to obtain such license within 6 months of employment.
Must be dependable and in good physical condition.
Safety shoes required.Work is performed outdoors (and primarily independently with assistance as needed) under all types of weather conditions with exposure to the usual hazards associated with outside maintenance and construction work.
This position is considered an Essential Position (County designation as ALPHA) which requires the employee to report to work during inclement and extreme weather conditions, often outside normally scheduled work hours, or as notified by a supervisor.
DMV records and criminal background checks conducted prior to employment.Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including lawn mower, weed eater, chipper, edger, blower, chainsaw, hand tools, shovel, hoe, rake, pruning equipment, etc. Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle. Much of the work involves heavy lifting and carrying of materials, bending, stooping, standing, and walking while doing the grounds keeping and construction activities.
