Job Title: Cytotechnologist
Department: Cytology
Shift: Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Employment Status: Per Diem
Reports to: Cytology Manager

Yosemite Pathology (YP) is a private independent pathologist owned and operated surgical pathology
and cytology laboratory based in Modesto, CA. YP provides comprehensive state of the art, reliable,
and accurate diagnostic services to its physicians and major area hospitals in the Alameda, Amador,
Calaveras, Contra Costa, Kern, Mariposa, Merced, San Joaquin, Solano, Stanislaus and Tuolumne
counties.

YP offers a full spectrum of tissue pathology, cytology and histology services, including examination
of gynecologic specimens, body fluids and fine needle aspiration specimens. We also offer an
extensive array of special stains and immunohistochemistry to assist in the management of oncologic
and non-oncologic diseases. The laboratory is supported by highly qualified Histotechnologist,
Cytotechnologist, Technicians and office staff who offer excellent service.

Summary/Objective
The Cytotechnologist is expected to function independently with minimal supervision, is held
accountable to maintain and promote trust, and positively interacts with physicians, patients and other
employees. This person will participate in Quality Control and quality improvement activities, assists
in activities for achieving accreditation and corporate compliance for Cytology, and maintains
proficiency in all aspects of performance of a Cytotechnologist – such as: primary screening of
Cytology specimens, specimen preparation, preparation of Cytology reports and statistics, and
maintaining records, supplies and competencies.

Essential Functions

  • Examines GYN & Non GYN slides under microscope to identify abnormalities in cell structure.
  • Reports negative Pap smears evaluations as final diagnosis.
  • Reports abnormal Pap smear results to Pathologist as preliminary finding.
  • Performs rapid adequacy assessments at the FNA clinic sites.
  • Communicates professionally, courteously, effectively and accurately with internal and external
staff, clients, physicians with an emphasis on SBAR system communication.
  • Actively promotes positive communications that enhance teamwork.
  • Processes GYN specimens, if applicable.
  • Overviewing & Re-screening GYN discrepancies while suggesting approaches to management
on ways to reduce errors.
  • Responsible for inventory control and stocking Inventory (i.e, FNA clinic).
  • Maintaining & recording laboratory equipment preventative maintenance.
  • Collaborate with other departments, colleagues, and clients in problem solving.
  • Perform troubleshooting specimen/test order problems and notifying management if
applicable.
  • Participating in work-related educational seminars, surveys, in-services (CAP, ASCP;
MediaLab).
  • Maximizing the highest quality performance and productivity throughout shift
  • Must complete all assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Ensure all work is performed properly and in a timely manner and Turn-around-time goals are
met.


Minimum Job Requirements

  • 2 - 4 years of Cytology experience
  • ASCP certified
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written


Work Environment
This position operates in a laboratory environment and involves frequent standing and exposure to
hazardous chemicals and biohazardous materials.

to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing duties of this job, the
employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use
hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift
and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision
abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth
perception and ability to adjust focus.

Salary : $73,300 - $92,800
