Description
We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our team as Gym Wellness Staff. This position plays a key role in creating a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment for our members. The Gym Wellness Staff will be responsible for maintaining gym equipment, supporting members in their fitness journeys, conducting fitness orientations, and promoting healthy lifestyles. This is a part-time, nonexempt position, with an early morning shift (5:00 a.m. -12 p.m.).
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain Equipment & Cleanliness: Ensure that all equipment in the weight and cardio rooms is kept clean during and at the end of each shift. Periodically clear the floor of weights, magazines, dust, and litter to maintain a safe environment.
- Monitor & Support Members: Supervise members for correct usage of equipment, ensuring safe and effective workouts. Be friendly, helpful, visible, and available to all members.
- Fitness Orientations: Conduct fitness orientations, demonstrate exercises on all equipment, and answer any questions members may have.
- Encourage Involvement: Foster member involvement and identify potential volunteers to enhance our community spirit.
- Promote Healthy Lifestyles: Increase participant awareness of healthy lifestyle factors and convey information about Y Health programs.
- Professional Conduct: Represent the Y professionally, including personal appearance, attitude, and actions. Enforce all Health & Wellness center rules.
- Accident Reporting: Respond to and report accidents, equipment issues, first aid concerns, and any significant problems to the Senior Program Director immediately.
- Communication & Collaboration: Maintain positive communication with volunteers, staff, and members. Support the Program Coordinator and Senior Program Director with Healthy Living Programs and attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certifications: CPR and First Aid certification (must be obtained within the first 6 months of employment).
- Experience: Prior experience working with health seekers, fitness equipment, or in a customer service role is preferred.
- Strong customer service skills and a passion for health and wellness.
- Ability to engage with a diverse group of members and build positive relationships.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the gym for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move gym equipment as needed.
