The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation is a Tribal health care organization, serving nearly 30,000 people living across rural, southwest Alaska in villages with populations from about 10 to more than 1,000. Description
Position Summary:
The Medicaid Enrollment Specialist is required to screen and assist all patients, insured or uninsured in applying for the appropriate government programs, either Medicaid, Denali Kidcare or Medicare. Must be able to explain the significance of enrollment in programs to individuals, communities, and organizations. Assists patients in completing the necessary applications, explaining what documentation is required for a complete application. Screens all in-house and outpatient admissions to identify financial lapse of insurance. Ability to explain to patients their paperwork received from federal and state agencies and trouble shoot the issues. Visits in-patient rooms to gather newborn information and assist with Medicaid or Denali Kidcare applications or renewals. Follows up on all submitted applications, assuring compliance and acts as a liaison between patients, hospital staff and government agencies in an effort to obtain approvals in a timely manner. The Medicaid Enrollment Specialist is required to travel to villages which may include overnight stays. Included in village travel, are presentations to village residents on changes to current programs and explaining the benefits of all programs available and the importance of renewing and retaining coverage on time. The Medicaid Enrollment Specialist must be computer literate and be able to independently access multiple data systems simultaneously, and to recall passwords for all systems. Confidentially is a must.

Position Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent. Computer literacy required.
- Two years office experience preferred.
- Two years in customer service position.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel and Word.
- Type 40 words per minute and 10-key experience.
- Prior experience preferred with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance directly. Held job for minimum of two years continuously. Yup’ik speaker preferred. Required to do village travel weekly to assist patients with applications, collect required documentation to support application.
- Follow up on all applications to ensure patient turned in all required documentation.
- Maintain list of patients whose coverage has expired or is about to expire to ensure continued health coverage.
- Update and maintain internal patient contact data base daily. Be able to multi-task and work independently. Confidentiality is a must.
- Copiers, print, fax machines, and multi-line telephones. Be able to access multiple computer programs simultaneously.
- Be able to work in a fast paced office independently. Be able to multi-task between different computer programs, retaining different passwords as needed.
