NATURE OF WORK
Performs varied tasks that assure the efficient and orderly operation of the courtroom, court calendar, and all court proceedings; provides administrative support, facilitates the flow of courtroom cases and official proceedings, enforces rules in the courtroom.

Example of Work:
(Illustrative Only) Manages the courtroom in an efficient manner through coordination of counsel, litigants, victims, law enforcement, the media, interpreters, and the general public; assures that the judge has all files, motions, sentencing documents, exhibits, case status information and other documents from Arizona Judicial Automated Case System (AJACS); performs a wide variety of support tasks for the court; assists jurors, witnesses, attorneys, news media, and others, according to established guidelines, policies, procedures, state statutes, rules, and administrative orders; guards, protects and maintains privacy and security of the jury deliberation room prior to deliberation; guards, protects and maintains the privacy of the jurors during jury deliberation; escorts jurors to lunch, dinner, and as assigned/required; manages the court record by operating the Jefferson Audio Video System (JAVS) in the courtroom and documenting proceedings designated by the court as JAVS official record; assists the courtroom clerks and court reporters in keeping an accurate record of court proceedings; pulls court files and reviews for completeness; reviews the AJACS calendar for accuracy; keeps a daily log of court proceedings; assists in preparing legal orders, sentencing documents, judge's notes and paperwork; and assists with scheduling of court hearings; coordinates with the jury commissioner in preparation for jury trial: manages the jury to prevent juror contamination and tampering throughout the duration of the trial and during deliberations; responds to juror needs during trial and deliberation; prepares and/or provides various forms associated with the court process to attorneys; handles sensitive and delicate issues with confidentiality and professionalism; provides clerical services and administrative support; responds to requests for sensitive information; reviews files and identifies file completeness and compliance to appropriate statutes, rules, administrative orders and other governing policies and procedures; assists with the coordination of cases and people through the court process; coordinates calendars; makes travel arrangements; assists in coordinating, preparing, updating, and distributing the Court's calendars; regular and reliable attendance is required; performs related duties as required or assigned.

Experience and Education:
High school diploma or GED AND two years of responsible administrative support and computer experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: This classification requires the applicant to pass criminal background checks; a valid Arizona State Driver's License may be required; Arizona Committee on Judicial Education and Training (COJET) yearly accreditation is required; employees in this classification may be required to obtain specific technical certifications. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a standard office environment and Court facilities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of: Applicable State of Arizona statutes, rules, administrative orders, operational policies and procedures; applicable Federal rules and requirements; Yuma County Policies and Procedures; legal, ethical, and professional rules of conduct; basic principles and practices of caseflow management, records management and jury management; Arizona Judicial Automated Case System (AJACS); Jefferson Audio Video Systems (JAVS) digital recording system; principles of human behavior; the criminal justice system and available community resources; principles and practices of case and records management; modern office practices, procedures and equipment; legal terminology and court processes and procedures.

Skills in: Maintaining composure, and working effectively under stressful conditions; remaining alert at all times and reacting quickly and calmly in emergency situations; interacting with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds, including judges, court staff, litigants, attorneys and the general public; effectively communicating in written and verbal forms; establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with court employees and the public; operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications; working under pressure; handling significant problems and tasks that come up simultaneously and unexpectedly.
