The Paralegal will assist attorney(s) by providing clerical and research support services, including document preparation and review; interviewing clients and witnesses; research, investigations, and fact-checking.
Essential Functions:
- Investigate facts and search relevant sources, such as public records and internet sources, to determine causes of action and to prepare cases.
- Obtain, review, and organize medical records.
- Research relevant legal materials to aid decision-making.
- Prepare affidavits or documents such as legal correspondence and manage and maintain documents in paper or electronic filing system.
- Discovery and deposition preparation.
Responsibilities:
- Meet with individuals involved in legal processes to provide information and clarify issues.
- Accurate management of cases and timely communication with clients.
- Prepare, calculate, and maintain damage summaries, including medical expenses, lost wages, and property damage.
- Draft correspondence necessary for case management
- Develop and maintain records regarding billable hours spent on specific cases.
- Serves as a liaison between clients and attorneys.
- Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
- Review the case management system for missing or delinquent entries.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Understand legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes, and related matters.
- Experience with all aspects of litigation.
- Microsoft Office Suite with high proficiency in Excel.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion and good judgment.
- Function well in a high-paced and, at times, stressful environment.
- Excellent telephone skills: communicating positively internally and externally.
- Problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate with other departments.
Education:
- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- Associate degree in Paralegal Studies or related field required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies or related field preferred.
