Description
YWCA Dayton, a 24-hour organization dedicated to the empowerment of women and the elimination of racism, seeks an energetic, dedicated person to be an integral part of our team. The Shelter Navigator reports to the Vice President of Operations and is responsible for ensuring the organization’s domestic violence shelter operational needs are met and upheld to the highest standards. The Shelter Navigator will deliver services utilizing trauma-informed care and other best practices and protocol. This person supports the vision, mission and values of YWCA Dayton.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drives daily operations of shelter including organization, inventory, room turnover, cleaning efforts, room checks and facility work orders setting a standard for excellence.
- Schedules and oversees shelter clients’ initial orientation to the shelter.
- Works closely with clinical staff exercising discernment amidst crisis situations, providing immediate interventions to de-escalate crisis and emergency situations; adequately escalates situations to appropriate staff and documents thoroughly.
- Collaborates with other departments to coordinate services, provide opportunities for client engagement and meet client needs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge and understanding of domestic violence, homelessness, and poverty.
- Active driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Understanding of racial equity and social justice issues and a demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of those we serve.
- Ability to navigate with ease through computer programs and maintain accurate electronic records.
- Responsive to the needs and requests of clients, residents, staff and Board of Directors with a willingness to collaborate and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Associate’s Degree in Human Services, Mental Health or related field; OR a minimum of 2 years’ experience in human services, social work, mental health, substance abuse or residential care.
- 2-4 years of experience working in domestic violence, victim advocacy, or shelter services preferred.

Salary : $36,088 - $38,000
