What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kids Quest Staff position at YWCA Northeast Kansas?
Primary Accountability:
- THIS IS A FLEIXBLE PART TIME JOB Mon - Thurs (Hours 7 am to 8:15 am; 3:15 pm to 5:30 pm); Fri (Hours 7 am to 9:15 am; 3:15 pm to 5:30 pm)
- Be aligned with YWCA’s mission, goals, and expectations while following the YWCA Early Learning Center philosophy and Kids Quest Program objectives.
- Be available and “on-call” during hours of operation (6:45am-5:30pm) to report to any of our 6 locations across Topeka.
- Aid and assist in classrooms and after school programs that you are assigned to for the day.
- Provide adequate and safe supervision to children in the work environment.
- Develop and maintain positive, effective, appropriate relationships with children and families.
- Responsible for care and engagement of children 12 months-4 years in our Early Learning Center program (ELC), and grades K-5 in before and after school programs (Kid’s Quest).
- Be a good role-model to youth by being engaged and active in activities.
- Aid with the implementation of developmentally appropriate daily activities in assigned location that corresponds with center/school themes and program philosophy.
- Facilitate choice-based activities such as arts and crafts, education and social learning, physical activities, and homework assistance with children.
- Provide safe, stimulating, creative environment for children and actively engage in daily routine and activities.
- Help and support fellow team members in the classroom.
- Maintain overall classroom cleanliness.
- Assist with kitchen cleanliness duties.
- Provide appropriate and complete documentation for KDHE regulations and YWCA Youth Services policies.
- Obtain and maintain training in First Aid, CPR, Child Abuse Recognition, and other required trainings.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- 18 years of age
- Certification in Childhood Illness, Child Abuse and Neglect, CPR and First Aid required within 30 days of employment. (Available through YWCA)
- Negative TB test and health assessment current within 2 years must be acquired within 7 days of employment
- Demonstrated communication, teamwork, flexibility, customer service, relationship development, organization, and interpersonal skills
- Must have reliable transportation to travel to and from site locations across Topeka, KS.
- Desire to work and engage with children
- Must be able to recognize and act upon any hazard to a child’s safety and well-being
- Desire to further the mission of YWCA Northeast Kansas: To eliminate racism and empower women
- Requires KBI fingerprinting and background check
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
- Daily duties require employees to sit, squat, and engage actively with children. Staff should be able to do this free from discomfort or difficulty

Pay: $16.00 per hour
