POSITION TITLE: ASSISTANT TEACHER

REPORTS TO: Child Care Director

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None

SUMMARY: Responsible for assuring a nurturing, enjoyable, safe, and educational environment for the children we serve.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Must have a

· High school diploma/GED

· 45 Hour Entry Level Course Certification (obtained within first 6 months)

· Child Development Certification (CDC)

o CDC must be obtained within two (2) years.

2. Be familiar with and be in compliance with all New Mexico State Regulations and Policies governing Child Care.

3. Be familiar with and be in compliance with all Zia Therapy Center, Inc. policies and procedures.

4. Collaborate with Lead Teacher to monitor the development of each child and help facilitate daily activities that are developmentally appropriate for the children.

5. Understand the Lead Teacher’s routine when it comes to delivering lesson plans and running the class in the event that the teacher is absent on a particular day.

6. Work with the children in the classroom to promote their learning and development.

7. Ensure the safety and well-being of each child by responding to their emotional, social, and physical needs as well as their educational needs.

8. Assist children with activities of daily life (e.g., diapering/restroom use, feeding, and dressing.

9. Possess a strong work ethic, be punctual, and have minimal unplanned absences.

10. Obtain required 24 hours of training each year.

11. Perform other related duties as assigned.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. None

EDUCATION AND OR TRAINING REQUIRED: High School Diploma or GED, 45 Hour Entry Level Course Certification, Child Development Certification (CDC must be obtained within two years of employment).

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 1 year of experience working with children in a similar setting preferred.

SKILLS NEEDED: Ability to lift and carry a weight of no less than 50 lbs. Lift and carry children on a daily basis. Lift and carry classroom supplies and/or equipment such as riding toys or playground equipment when needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to meet or exceed the following physical required, with or without accommodations. These are estimates only and can change from day-to-day depending on tasks assigned.
