MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coating:
- Operate pilot coating machine, incl. paper unwinding & winding, hot air dryer and multi-layer fluid coating head and precision fluid dispensing.
- Maintain pilot coating machine, including disassembly, cleaning and re-assembly of precision mechanical components, pumps and blowers.
- Troubleshoot process, raw material and basic equipment problems.
- Sample and/or inspect film prior to and after coating.
- Perform quality checks - printing, visual inspection & color.
- Dispersions / Chem mix:
- Follow computer-based batch recipes for chemical mixtures. Weigh & measure chemicals in the proper sequence, amount and addition rate.
- Operate equipment- reactors, mixing vessels, mills, sonolators & chillers.
- Sample and measure solution physical and chemical properties.
- Wash kettles and monitor equipment and process cleanliness.
- Troubleshoot process, raw material and basic equipment problems.
- General Duties:
- Maintain appropriate housekeeping and process cleanliness.
- Work in a team environment to meet safety, quality and production goals.
- Interface with existing computer systems: payroll, Email, Word & Excel.
- Receive and move materials manually and with pallet jacks & fork trucks.
- Perform other duties as requested.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Fluids lab and coating pilot plant, working with engineers and scientists in the development and scaleup of chemical mixtures and coatings.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:
- General understanding of chemical handling, process control, SPC, safety, dissolving, dilution and chemical property testing .
- Previous experience and a desire to be an active team member in a team environment.
- Able to be trained to work with our process control, quality and inventory systems.
- Proven attendance record
- Good attention to detail
- Good problem solving skills
- Proven initiative & interest to learn
- Physical requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 60 pounds depending on area assigned.
- Capable of working extended lengths of time standing during the shift.
