What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mining the Euclid Survey for High-Redshift Quasars and Strong Lenses position at Zintellect?
About the NASA Postdoctoral Program
The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA’s missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology.
Description:
Euclid successfully launched into its L2 orbit in July 2023, and after several months of cooling and commissioning, the Euclid Survey began in February 2024. This survey will eventually cover approximately 14,000 deg2 of extragalactic sky to depths of ~26.2 mag in the wide VIS optical filter and ~24.5 mag in the Euclid Y, J, and H near-IR filters. Euclid will be a key resource for a wide range of Legacy Science, including the expected discovery of ~100 quasars at z>7 and ~200,000 galaxy-scale strong gravitational lenses. We seek qualified applicants to help plan and execute searches for high-redshift quasars and strong lenses in the Euclid survey, and to lead/participate in scientific studies of these discoveries. The successful applicant will have extensive access to the 5-m telescope at Palomar Observatory.
