Seasonal Public Safety Officer (6 Months)

Who We Are Looking For:

The Philadelphia Zoo is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals for the position of Seasonal Public Safety Officer. This exciting opportunity is ideal for recent high school graduates or college students with flexible scheduled and are looking to gain valuable work experience while contributing to the safety and enjoyment of our guests.

What You Will Do: 

Bag Screening

• Conduct thorough bag screening and inspections to ensure the safety and security of guests and zoo property.
• Identify and address any prohibited items, such as weapons, alcohol, or other contraband.
• Communicate screening procedures and guidelines to visitors in a polite and professional manner.
• Crowd Management:
• Maintain a visible and reassuring presence to ensure the safety of zoo visitors.
• Direct and assist guests during busy periods and special events.
• Monitor and enforce safety protocols and guidelines.
• Guest Assistance:
• Provide information, directions, and assistance to visitors to enhance their experience.
• Offer assistance to guests with lost items, first aid needs, or other concerns.
• Act as a friendly and approachable point of contact for guests.
• Security:
• Conduct routine patrols to identify and address any safety or security issues.
• Report any suspicious activities or incidents to the supervisory team.
• Assist in emergency evacuations and lockdown procedures as necessary.
• First Aid:

1. Administer basic first aid as required and in accordance with training.
2. Maintain a well-stocked first aid kit and ensure its readiness at all times.
3. Coordinate with medical staff or first responders for more serious medical situations.

• Customer Service:

1. Provide exemplary customer service by being polite, courteous, and helpful at all times.
2. Handle guest complaints and inquiries professionally and efficiently.
3. Promote a positive and welcoming environment for all guests.

What This Role Requires:

• High school diploma 
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Availability to work weekends, holidays, and special events as needed.
• Basic knowledge of first aid or willingness to undergo first aid training.
• Ability to perform bag screening and inspections efficiently and in compliance with security protocols.
• Able to successfully complete a comprehensive background screening process and medical testing.
• Able to provide Covid vaccination record or complete medical or religious accommodation paperwork.

Additional Information:

• Seasonal positions are typically available year round and offer employment for up to 6 months, with opportunities for extended employment based on performance and availability.
• Training will be provided to ensure you are equipped to perform your duties effectively.
• Uniforms and equipment will be provided.
• This role involves standing and walking for extended periods, so physical fitness is important.
