The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office is currently accepting applications for the position of Senior Legal Assistant. As a Senior Legal Assistant, you must have the ability to organize and prioritize work and accuracy with detail. Our staff work together as a cohesive team under pressure and must be flexible, able and willing to fill in on short notice. This position may require you to resolve issues when a supervisor is not available. This position acts as a technical resource and trainer to other staff including attorneys and management and may also act as a team lead in certain positions. Your main responsibilities includes, but are not limited to the following: Enter felony cases in systems including fugitive and extradition matters. Run criminal history records from various law enforcement data systems and analyze as requested. Respond to questions from victims, witnesses, attorneys, outside agencies and others in a culturally appropriate manner regarding procedures and case status, while following standard procedures, regulations and office policies. Issue subpoenas for records or witnesses as needed and cover subpoena clerks positions as requested. Prepare court orders, draft orders from attorney’s notes, proofread orders and file following policy and procedures. Investigate facts related to litigated fact situations and claims using case management and other systems to determine next legal steps needed or problem solve questions or complaints regarding cases and legal actions. May also be called upon to assist with projects that require resourcefulness, independent judgment, analysis of varied data, and other needed information. The ability to maintain confidentiality is essential. Most vacancies in the District Attorney's Office are full-time, however this list may be used to fill part-time, temporary, limited duration and on-call openings. Required Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills: Equivalent to completion of the 12th grade. Three years of general clerical experience. Five years of responsible legal clerical experience, including three years of legal assistant experience working within a district attorney, county counsel, or relevant legal office. Basic working knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of criminal or judicial system, and some knowledge of legal terminology and legal databases. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): LEDS Certification. Advanced knowledge of data systems such as RegJIN, LEDS, NCIC, Odyssey, CRIMES and Microsoft Word. Other: Candidates must successfully pass a thorough criminal background check and post -offer urine drug screen.
