This position works out of Abbott Park, IL, with other locations including Santa Clara, CA, Alameda, CA, Chicago, IL, Plymouth, MN, and St. Paul, MN. As an IP Research Information Scientist, you will support Abbott businesses by managing legal risks. Working within the Abbott Research Center (ARC), you will collaborate with ARC functions and the Legal IP department on IP projects involving searching, discovering, and analyzing clinical, biomedical, and patent literature. Responsibilities include developing and implementing patent search strategies, conducting Freedom to Operate (FTO) and patentability searches, collaborating with IP legal teams, providing patent support, assessing threats to products, monitoring competitors, and integrating AI technologies into IP workflows. Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree or higher in science or engineering, at least 3 years of relevant industry experience in patent and scientific literature searching, competitor product and IP assessment, and competitive intelligence analysis. Preferred qualifications include being a registered patent agent with the USPTO, experience in a matrixed environment, healthcare business experience, and understanding FDA regulations.
