Responsibilities
- Receive, log, and verify specimens, ensuring proper labeling, quantity, condition, and integrity.
- Sort and organize incoming specimens by type, priority, and destination for processing.
- Maintain accurate specimen tracking, labeling, and categorization to ensure an organized storage area.
- Conduct initial quality assessments and ensure specimens are suitable for testing.
- Report any issues with specimens (e.g., damage, improper labeling) to relevant personnel.
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulatory standards for specimen handling, storage, and disposal.
- Enter specimen data accurately into laboratory management systems, ensuring consistency with physical samples.
- Update records and monitor sample status throughout the processing workflow.
- Log deliveries into the national system using scanning technology and update records accordingly.
- Prepare specimens for analysis and ensure correct identification and labeling.
- Communicate updates and resolve specimen-related inquiries with internal teams and clients.
- Collaborate with team members to complete tasks efficiently and meet department goals and deadlines.
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and remain seated for extended periods as needed.
- Adapt to changing priorities and workload volumes to maintain operational efficiency.
- Complete additional tasks as assigned by management.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- At least 1 year of experience in intake, receiving, data entry or a similar role in a laboratory or healthcare setting preferred.
- Ability to accurately identify specimens and enter relevant information.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with internal teams.
- Exceptional attention to detail for accurate specimen documentation and handling.
- Skilled in organizing and managing multiple specimens and related documentation efficiently.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols, including the proper handling and disposal of biological materials.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and maintain positive relationships with colleagues.
- Strong problem-solving skills to identify and resolve specimen tracking or scanning discrepancies.
- Comfortable handling blood, urine, and saliva specimens.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and exceed client expectations.
