Direct Support Professional 2 (JNS)

Location: New Baltimore, NY

Purpose:

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Direct Support Professional 2 to join our team. As a Direct Support Professional 2, you will work as part of an interdisciplinary team providing services to adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities.

Main Responsibilities:

• Assist individuals with activities of daily living, including personal care, meal preparation, medication administration, and health maintenance.
• Support individuals in developing independent living skills, such as money management, community integration, and social skills.
• Encourage and provide advocacy for the individuals we support.
• Work in a variety of settings, including residential habilitation and day habilitation, within the individual's home or in the community.

Requirements:

• Demonstrate all skills and attributes outlined in the NYS DSP Core Competencies.
• Able to work in a diverse and inclusive environment with individuals of various abilities.
• Complete all mandatory trainings within the first 90 days and maintain recertifications ongoing.
• Professionally and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
• Understand regulations and document services in real-time using electronic technology.
• Able to multitask and prioritize job responsibilities.
• Respond timely and effectively to emergency and crisis situations.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bilingual English and Spanish speaking.
• Fluent in American Sign Language.

Education and Experience:

• Associates degree in a related field.
• At least 1 year of professional direct care experience or real-life experience caring for others.
• Internal candidates with at least 6 months of experience supporting people with higher needs (behavioral or medical).

Physical Characteristics:

• Must be capable of performing all SCIP interventions.
• Able to provide hands-on care to individuals with various physical disabilities, including showering, feeding, and physical assistance.
• Ability to perform various household cleaning tasks using cleaning supplies.
• Occasional lifting of 25 pounds, occasional pushing/pulling of 25 pounds, and occasional reaching and bending to perform necessary duties.
• Ability to ascend and descend stairs.
• Ability to participate in light to moderate physical activities.
• Ability to utilize various electronic devices.
• Provide transportation using vehicles ranging in size from sedans to large passenger vans.
