Job Overview
You handle the maintenance, repair, and operation of large natural-gas generators and generation stations. Your work keeps customer power online, safe, and reliable. You report to the Field Operations Manager and support field operations across assigned locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain primary power delivery with 98% reliability
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain generators ranging from 1,000–2,500 kW
- Inspect, service, repair, and perform start-ups and load-bank testing
- Diagnose and service alternators, wiring harnesses, safety devices, shutdown systems, and batteries
- Perform engine inspection, disassembly, failure analysis, reassembly, and performance testing
- Keep locations clean and environmentally compliant (oil, coolant, debris)
- Maintain accurate generator and maintenance records
- Track spare parts inventory and initiate reorders as needed
- Communicate equipment issues clearly to field leadership
- Work safely at all times and follow safety procedures
- Participate in operational meetings and contribute improvement ideas
- Drive safely and comply with all laws
- Complete required safety training
- Respond to call-outs and work overtime as needed
Required Experience & Skills
- 5 years maintaining and troubleshooting large-horsepower (1,000 HP) natural gas generators
- 5 years hands-on experience with large natural gas engines (e.g., Cummins, CAT)
- Ability to read and interpret:
- Electrical schematics
- One-line diagrams
- Wiring diagrams
- Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision
- Strong troubleshooting mindset
- Willingness to learn new systems and procedures
- Knows personal limits and asks for support when needed
- Team-oriented and flexible
Preferred Experience
- CAT SIS documentation and manuals
- CAT ET software for diagnostics, tuning, and troubleshooting
- Natural gas engine tuning using combustion and emissions analyzers
- Oil & gas field operations experience
- Process gas flow systems knowledge (pressure, valves, regulators, instrumentation)
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs
