What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accessioner/Specimen Processor position at Actalent?
Description: The specimen accessioning team is actively involved in pre-analytical and post-analytical processes of testing but are not directly involved in testing. In this role, one is responsible for receiving incoming samples, logging them into a computer, and preparing the samples to then hand off to the lab. The post- analytical process as a specimen accessioner includes sample storage and disposal.

Key Responsibilities Include:
- Meet couriers at the door to receive samples from all over the USA and internationally and start the tracking process
- Verify all samples arrived (manually or through data system for larger shipments), inspect for any damage, remove and dispose of packaging, and move samples down the line for entry
- Operate out of multiple computer software systems and will be required to remember which softwares apply to different samples
- Verify name on samples match requisitions
- Handle mostly urine samples with some samples including blood, serum, plasma, body fluid
- After entry into systems, create labels and label samples
- Sometimes required to aliquot samples from 1 into 2 samples, centrifuge or freeze samples to stabilize if needed.
Required Education, Experience, Skills and Qualifications:
- High School Diploma (preference towards a Bachelors' in Science Degree)
- Desire to move up within the lab
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
- Must be able to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Able to work in a fast-paced production environment to meet established turnaround times
Additional Skills & Qualifications: Managers are open to a variety of backgrounds as long as interested candidates are willing to learn and have experience multitasking. There is a preference towards a bachelor's degree in science but they are also open to other backgrounds- banking, serving, and other customer service jobs provide a solid set of skills for this role.
