Job Description

We are seeking a Materials and Processes Engineer specializing in Composite Materials with a focus on interior structure. In this role, you will develop and improve materials and process specifications to consistently produce components with predictable performance as determined by qualification testing. You will provide Quality and Manufacturing teams with your technical opinion on the impact of exceptions to the expected performance of materials, assisting in the appropriate disposition of non-conformances. Additionally, you will guide the Design team on the suitable use of composite materials within a vehicle, considering service requirements, manufacturability, and integration with the rest of the vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Review drawings and part models to ensure the use of appropriate materials with necessary drawing notes for the required manufacturing processes.
• Draft and revise materials and process specifications to produce products with predictable performance.
• Troubleshoot issues in Manufacturing or at Vendors related to deviations from specifications or failure of existing specifications to produce the desired results reliably.
• Collaborate with team members and leadership, and interact with Manufacturing, Engineering, and other departments for various projects.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a related Engineering or Physical Science field from an ABET or equivalent accredited institution.
• Minimum of 5 years experience in the evaluation or processing of aerospace materials, including composites and plastics.
• Experience with materials and process specifications for composite materials.
• Knowledge of composite material mechanical testing and physical characterization methods.
• Familiarity with statistical analysis methods of treating test data.
• Experience in authoring/revising materials and process specifications for composite materials and associated processes.
• Experience in developing a Design of Experiments for Process Improvement.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent computer skills, familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Work Environment

This position is based at the Tustin Headquarters, a dynamic and innovative workspace designed to foster creativity and collaboration. The company culture is relaxed and informal, encouraging individuality and innovation. The headquarters focuses on research and development and is located in the FLIGHT at Tustin Legacy, a creative office campus situated on 17 acres with almost 372,000 square feet of space. Amenities include the Mess Hall Market, a 12,000-square-foot market food hall with chef-driven food and beverage concepts, a 6,000-square-foot conference center for meetings and special events, and expansive outdoor spaces for relaxation. The role is a 6 month contract with a straight 40-hour workweek, operating in Pacific time.

This is a Contract position based out of Tustin, CA.

The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $75.00/hr.
