Job Title: Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

The primary purpose of this position is to work with the prime contractor in developing and analyzing instrument mounting platforms (IMP) for the Geo-XO spacecraft. The Mechanical Engineer will collaborate with the structures team to develop and integrate IMPs, ensuring they meet mission and structural requirements. Responsibilities include performing integration activities such as interface control drawing (ICD) development and dimensional analyses, supporting the structural design and integration of the IMP for Preliminary and Critical Design Review (PDR/CDR) deliverables, and effectively communicating findings to all stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the structures team to develop and integrate instrument mounting platforms.
• Perform integration activities such as interface control drawing (ICD) development and dimensional analyses.
• Support structural design and integration of the IMP for Preliminary and Critical Design Review (PDR/CDR) deliverables.
• Contribute to the design and development of the LM2100 Instrument Pointing Platform, ensuring structural integrity and performance.
• Participate in drawing and technical reviews, ensuring accuracy and adherence to design specifications.
• Generate and release sketch-level engineering for rapid development and flight-ready engineering for qualified builds.
• Assist in the development of engineering packages for IMP components to meet PDR and CDR requirements.
• Support the development and execution of a thermal distortion test for the large composite optical bench.
• Collaborate with thermal and structures engineering teams to develop comprehensive test plans and support Test Readiness Reviews.
• Contribute to the creation and refinement of structural and development Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) documentation.

Essential Skills

• A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited college.
• A minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in aerospace mechanical design, focusing on instrument mounting platforms (IMP).
• Experience with developing structural drawings and drawing change processes.
• Experience developing and maintaining parts lists and drawing trees.
• Proficiency in CREO Drawing and Release, EDPM, and solving complex issues.
• Experience with mechanisms hardware performance and integration into space vehicles.
• Effective interpersonal skills in collaborative team environments.
• Self-motivated and proactive with a strong ability to take initiative.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to build and maintain trust and credibility with customers and contract personnel.
• Sound professional judgment in setting objectives, milestones, and priorities.
• Reliable and dedicated work ethic.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience creating and managing parts lists and drawing trees.
• Experience with mechanisms hardware performance and integration into space vehicles.
• Ability to analyze and resolve complex issues.
• Experience in creating and managing engineering data within EPDM.

Work Environment

This role supports a contract with a major aerospace company in Denver, CO. The work involves collaborating with project teams, thermal and structures engineering teams, and participating in test readiness reviews. The position requires effective communication and cooperative interactions with project managers, leads, customers, and contract colleagues. The work environment emphasizes delivering high-quality results and maintaining accurate documentation and streamlined production processes.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
