Microbiology Lab Assistant

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Microbiology Lab Assistant to join our team. This role involves working with hand soaps and sanitizers, focusing on hand hygiene and skin care. As a Microbiologist, you will perform basic laboratory tasks, including cleaning glassware, stocking solutions, and testing for bacteria in products. You will also assist in organism identification, investigations, and cell culturing.

Responsibilities

• Clean glassware and stock solutions and plates.
• Test for bacteria in products.
• Assist in organism identification and investigations.
• Assist in culturing cells.
• Receive and log samples from vendors.
• Set up testing and log data.
• Test finished goods, raw materials, and water.
• Use lab instruments, including pipetting.
• Work with teammates and independently.
• Perform dishwashing duties.
• Conduct bacterial culture work (Biosafety levels 1 and 2).
• Collect samples for testing.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Biology or Microbiology.
• Familiarity with biology and microbiology techniques and instrumentation.
• Basic laboratory proficiency.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask and maintain quality under time pressure.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in a microbiology laboratory.
• Knowledge of chemistry.
• Proficiency in microbial techniques.
• Experience with autoclave and aseptic techniques.
• Understanding of microbiological quality control and GMP.

Work Environment

This role is based in an industrial, manufacturing environment. The work is fast-paced and involves processing and recording data from multiple samples. The dress code includes jeans, a t-shirt, and a lab coat. Working hours are Sunday to Thursday from 7am to 3pm, with training hours from Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm, for up to 8 weeks.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $22.00/hr.
