Job Description

The Phlebotomist will be responsible for identifying the best method for retrieving specimens and preparing them for laboratory testing, while maintaining top standards of safety protocol.

Responsibilities

• Verify clinical lab test orders and address discrepancies with appropriate clinical staff.
• Verify patient information using two patient identifiers.
• Determine the best method for obtaining blood samples based on the specific patient.
• Obtain blood specimens by performing venipunctures and fingerstick.
• Dispose of contaminated sharps in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and policies.
• Track collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection; maintain daily tallies of collections performed.
• Maintain quality results by following department procedures and complying with legal regulations.
• Practice infection control standards at all times when working with patients and equipment.

Work Environment

The work schedule is from 7:30am-4pm or 8am-4:30pm, Monday to Friday. The position is based in Poughkeepsie. The company is growing, offering room for individual growth, and competitive pay. The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00
