What are the responsibilities and job description for the QC Chemist position at Actalent?
Description:
- Responsible for performing HPLC, GC, and bench chemistry on a day to day basis on the company's main products, Heparin and Pancreatin, as well as some new products coming down the pipeline.
- Heparin testing runs on a 2 week cyclical basis.
- The first week is heavily HPLC, then they get related substances and run molecular weight tests, nucleotidic impurity tests, potency tests, and blood chemistry. Pancreatin testing includes a lot of wet chemistry, a few HPLC and GC tests, and the bulk is enzyme testing and fat testing, This individual will also be performing some review and following some customer requests/guidelines. The testing is routine, but there will be cross training among multiple tests so there will be a variety for them to work on.
Day to day:
Each day you will look at what you are scheduled for. Sometimes you are scheduled for a test per day or a suite of testing per day. Schedule a test per day or a suite of testing per day. Some of the HPLC and GC testing can last a full day and some of the shorter tests are moisture testing where you can run 1 per half hour. When you enter the lab you will set up testing. There will be cross training among a wide range of testing and as you learn how to do more tests, you will be challenged with learning additional tests.
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or other life science.
