What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgical Technologist position at Actalent?
Description:
•Surgical technologists work under the supervision of the surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures
•Ensures that the operating room environment is safe, the equipment functions properly, and the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety
•Handles instrument, supplies and equipment necessary for the surgical procedure
•Directs other caregivers as a means to help manage operational issues
•Understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the need of the surgeon
•Identifies and recommends opportunities for more efficient and cost effective use of material resources
•Ensures quality patient care during operative procedure and vigilance for maintenance of sterile field
•Assists with positioning of patient using appropriate equipment
•Assists in circulating by obtaining additional instruments and supplies necessary during surgical procedures
•Acts as preceptor to develop, assess and validate clinical competencies of team members
•Seeks opportunities to teach, coach and mentor others
•Participates with improvement in customer satisfaction
•Properly cares for specimens and ensures safe handling and disposition
•Demonstrates knowledge of guidelines, policies and safety requirements as determined by relevant regulatory compliance organizations
•Follows the Environment of Care and Joint Commission Guidelines
•Participates in department Quality Improvement, development and compliance of departmental policies and procedures as it relates to performance of duties
•Follows procedure for labeling and identify medication and or solutions on and off sterile field in perioperative and all other procedural settings
•Compliance to all medication safety

Additional Skills & Qualifications:
Coursework/Training - Graduate of accredited Surgical Technology Program
Licenses/Certifications: Current BLS certification from American Heart Association
Experience: 1 year Operating room experience within a hospital
