***IMMEDIATE NEED FOR A SURVEY CREW CHIEF***
A growing, mid-sized civil engineering firm has an immediate need for a survey crew chief to join their team. The Survey Crew Chief will plan and evaluate proposed field survey projects, manage the field survey teams, prepare, process and coordinate the required field design survey work and construction staking survey work and other surveys and daily survey logs. This is a long term opportunity that provides project stability and career growth.
QUALIFICATIONS:
*2 years of professional experience as a survey crew chief
*Submit to an MVR for insurance reasons (driving a company truck)
*Willingness to day travel
*Proficiency with GPS equipment
*Experience with topographic, right-of-way, and control survey projects
JOB DUTIES:
- This person will be party chief for a field survey crew (2-3 person crew) engaged in making plans and/or geodetic surveys for construction, topographic, right-of-way, and control survey projects
- Participate in pre-survey planning meetings with project managers, resident engineers, and contractor representatives
- Assign and monitor work, and provide input for evaluation of members of the field survey crew.
- The Crew Chief will be the lead field surveyor in survey and mapping methods, use of equipment, and field safety procedures.
- Gather field survey data through use of conventional and Global Positioning System (GPS) methods
- Set up, adjust, and operate surveying equipment, including electronic total station, data collector, and GPS equipment, in order to measure distances, elevations, and angles
- Prepare field notes and drawings
- Perform complex surveying calculations using engineering calculator, laptop computer, personal computer, and graphics software, such as AutoCAD
- Analyze raw data for mathematical closure and geometric accuracy
- Prepare finished grade sheets, topographic maps, records of survey, ALTA Surveys, corner staking, etc., and other survey reports
TYPES OF PROJECTS
- Design Surveys and Construction Staking
- Route Surveys, Boundary Surveys, Topographic Surveys and ALTA
- Both Public and Private projects - they do INDOT and surveying for municipal clients
PROJECT LOCATIONS
Most projects located within the Greater Indianapolis Area – most travel will be day travel. At times, candidates may have to work out of town and stay overnight - one week out of the month. Possibly travel to KY to help office there.
