Description:
The main function of a mechanical engineer is to research and investigate the design, functionality and maintenance of mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes. A typical mechanical engineer has the ability to make engineering drawings, and read and interpret blueprints.
Job Responsibilities:
* Research, design, develop, manufacture, and test tools, engines, machines and other mechanical devices.
* Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals to determine time and cost feasibility to complete projects.
* Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and make recommendation to maintenance crew.
* Assist drafters in developing the structural design of products using tools, equipment or software.
Skills:
* Creativity, verbal and written communication skills, analytical and problem solving ability.
* Team player and detail oriented.
* Ability to make sketches, engineering drawings and common computations.
* Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawing, schematics and computer-generated reports.
* Previous experience with computer applications and software related to engineering field, such as Computer Aided Design (CAD).
Education/Experience:
* Bachelor's degree in engineering required.
* 5-7 years experience required.
Large Power Systems Division – TC L - Engine Lab. The team he oversees is made up of test engineers that focus on validation of engine mounted components (turbos, structural brackets, etc.) of large engines used in multiple products. ½ the time is CPI (Root Cause Analyses, Data, Testing, FMEA, etc.), ½ time is spent in NPI (emissions improvements, sustainability initiatives, alt fuels, hydrogen fuel, new engine products, etc.). He’s looking for a test engineer to be added to his team. They work with multiple teams to get the tests done so there is always variety and visibility to other work being done. There’s 3 phases to their tests:
- Pre-test planning - Gauge maps (2-3 month planning phase)
- Run tests – engine test cell (could be 3-4 days or 3-4 weeks depending on how big the scope of the project is)
- Vibration testing
- Strain testing
- Other tests as needed
- Post-test analysis – summaries and reports
