Job Description

The Network Underground P&C Test Engineer role ensures the safe and efficient installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of the Network Underground Systems in Atlanta. Responsibilities include working on energized equipment in enclosed spaces that are below grade, writing switching orders and utilizing hot line tools to perform circuit switching on medium voltage equipment (4KV to 25KV). The role also involves assisting in the development and implementation of new technology for SCADA system monitoring, participating in an on-call rotation and responding to system emergencies and concerns as they arise, handling customer inquiries (voltage complaints, claims, etc.), and communicating effectively with high profile customers to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• Testing, commissioning, and maintaining the electrical protection and control systems within power substations to ensure they function properly and safeguard the electrical grid by identifying and isolating faults in case of power surges or equipment failures.
• Performing routine and scheduled tests on protective relays, control circuits, and other substation equipment using specialized testing equipment to verify their functionality and accuracy.
• Setting up and testing new protection and control systems during the construction or upgrade of a substation.
• Diagnosing faults in protection and control systems, identifying the root cause of issues, and making necessary repairs or adjustments.
• Interpreting test results, analyzing data to identify potential problems, and generating reports for engineers and maintenance teams.
• Performing routine maintenance tasks on protection and control equipment to ensure optimal performance and prevent failures.
• Adhering to strict safety procedures while working in high voltage environments, including proper lockout/tagout practices.

Essential Skills

• Understanding of electrical power systems and principles of protective relaying.
• Expertise in using specialized testing equipment like relay testers, power quality analyzers, and communication test sets.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and diagrams.
• Knowledge of substation automation systems (SCADA) and communication protocols.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred) OR Associate Degree in a Technical Field (Electronics, Electrical, Maintenance Technology, etc.). OR Technology Degree in a technical field

Work Environment

The role involves working 60% in the field and 40% in the office, often in high voltage environments. Adherence to strict safety procedures, including proper lockout/tagout practices, is mandatory.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr.
