General Purpose:
The Bakery Production Assistant provides customer-friendly service to our valuable customers and provides the quality products that Adams is known for. This means baking cakes to keep the bakery cases filled, assisting the Bakers and Cake Decorators, and being the final line for quality control in the department.

Reports to: Manager, Assistant Manager, Supervisor
Job Description:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Ensure that customers receive the best customer service by providing friendly, polite and knowledgeable service
- Greet customers personally and thank them appreciatively for shopping at Adams
- Take customer orders both in person and on the phone
- Report to bakery manager or assistant to review key goals and tasks for the day
- Check the floor to see what items are running low and what is needed for the day
- Be aware of sale items and pricing
- Maintain full knowledge of Bakery product line and pricing Mix and bake all cakes needed according to bakery recipes
- Mix all fillings and icings needed to assemble cakes according to bakery recipes
- Cut and fill cakes quickly, efficiently, and consistently to fill showcase and cake orders
- Rotate products to keep older product in front and stock cases and sale tables, making sure each package is correctly labeled and there are no empty spaces; rotate cakes to keep oldest in back
- Assist the Bakers and Cake Decorators as needed
- Receive deliveries; check delivery ticket against what was ordered and product received
- Make apple cider donuts
- Be the final line for quality control: look for packaging issues, sell-by dates, and be vigilant about quality and presentation for all products put into the case
- Clean dishes and equipment used and put away once dry
- Keep all areas of the department clean and organized, including sales floor, counter, cases, coolers, preparation and production areas
- When a customer needs assistance, give the customer priority over the task at hand
Physical Requirements:
- Consistently lift and move 50 pounds
- Stand for duration of shift
- Climb up and down a stepstool, stepladder, and ladder
- Use hands, wrists, fingers and arms for duration of the shift
- Safely operate mixers, large ovens, bread slicer, knives, donut machine and other equipment necessary to run the department
- Use the compactor and cardboard crusher for disposing of garbage and recycling
Qualifications:
- Communicate clearly with customers and co-workers
- Employees are our internal customers; treat them with the same courtesy and respect as our external customers
- Be food safety certified or become food safety certified within first 6 months of hire
- Must work efficiently and at a productive pace per department needs
- Must be able to work scheduled shift
- Follow all department safety policies and procedures
- Be able to concentrate on tasks in order to avoid injury and waste of product
- Be able to read and understand recipes and cake order tickets
- Perform math necessary to complete measurements accurately
- Be knowledgeable about Adams product – recommend ideas to customers by exploring customer preferences and advocating Adams product
- Some previous food experience helpful
