Senior Tax Associate Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Tax Associate to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in tax preparation and technical review, with a strong focus on individual, business, estate, and trust tax returns. Key Responsibilities
Tax Preparation & Compliance
- Prepare and review individual tax returns (Form 1040), business tax returns (Forms 1065, 1120S), and other related tax filings.
- Review and prepare more complex returns, including Estate (Form 706), Trust (Form 1041), and Gift Tax (Form 709).
- Assist in tax planning strategies for clients to ensure optimized tax outcomes and full compliance with relevant regulations.
Technical Review & Quality Control
- Conduct in-depth technical reviews of tax returns prepared by junior staff, ensuring accuracy and compliance with current tax laws.
- Identify opportunities for tax savings and address any issues that may arise during the preparation or review process.
Client Interaction & Advisory
- Serve as a direct point of contact for clients, helping to gather required information and provide clear, actionable advice on tax-related matters.
- Communicate complex tax concepts in an accessible manner, offering clients a thorough understanding of their tax situation and strategies for improvement.
Professional Development & Continuing Education
- Actively pursue CPA certification (if not already obtained) and maintain up-to-date knowledge of changing tax laws, industry developments, and software tools.
- Participate in internal training, as well as continuing professional education to refine technical skills and stay current with tax regulations.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
- Experience: Minimum of two years of experience in public accounting or tax preparation, with strong expertise in tax compliance and technical review.
- Tax Knowledge: Demonstrated experience with individual tax (Form 1040), business tax (Forms 1065, 1120S), and an understanding of Estate (Form 706), Trust (Form 1041), and Gift Tax (Form 709) returns.
- Software Proficiency: Proficient in Ultratax/Thomson Reuters tax software (or similar tax preparation software).
- Certifications: Active pursuit of CPA certification preferred, if not already licensed.
- Tax Planning: Experience with tax planning and strategy is highly desirable, with the ability to apply knowledge to real-world client scenarios.
