Position Overview
The Benefits Manager is responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing administration of this company’s employee benefits programs. This role provides both strategic and operational leadership across health and welfare benefits, retirement programs, leave policies, and related offerings. The Benefits Manager ensures programs are competitive, compliant, and aligned with organizational objectives while effectively managing cost, risk, and regulatory requirements.
This position partners closely with HR leadership, Finance, vendors, and external consultants to deliver high-quality benefits that support employee well-being and workforce engagement. The role reports to the Vice President of Human Resources and is 100% onsite at the Newington, NH facility.
Responsibilities
- Owns the end-to-end administration of all employee benefit programs, serving as the primary subject matter expert and escalation point for benefits-related matters.
- Leads the annual open enrollment process, including employee communications, vendor coordination, negotiations, system configuration, and carrier file management.
- Ensures compliance with company policies and all federal and state regulations, including documentation, filings (e.g., Form 5500), COBRA administration, and distribution of required notices and summaries.
- Manages benefits operations within the HRIS by partnering with HRIS vendors, IT, and carriers to implement plan changes, automate data feeds, and conduct regular audits for accuracy.
- Oversees vendor and carrier relationships, monitors performance, and manages benefits expenditures against the annual budget, including invoice review, approval, and reconciliation.
- In partnership with the VP of Human Resources, provides oversight of the 401(k) plan, including governance, committee support, and annual filings, as well as ancillary programs such as tuition reimbursement, service anniversaries, and wellness initiatives.
- Collaborates with the benefits broker to lead annual plan reviews and independently design, implement, and optimize competitive benefits programs aligned with business strategy and budget.
- Analyzes benefits data, costs, and market trends to deliver actionable insights and recommendations that enhance program effectiveness, employee experience, and cost management.
- Develops and delivers clear and effective employee communications, including policies, procedures, training materials, benefits presentations, and supporting documentation.
- Supervises benefits staff in a collaborative, accountable, and results-oriented environment while continuously improving processes, metrics, and internal controls.
- Applies strong business acumen and legal knowledge to independently drive benefits initiatives that support talent attraction, retention, and engagement.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of benefits management experience required; 8 years preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in benefits management required.
- Experience designing and managing cost-efficient domestic and global benefits programs, including self-insured and ICHRA medical plans, dental, vision, disability, 401(k), and wellness programs.
- Strong financial and analytical acumen with the ability to evaluate data and develop recommendations for complex issues; actuarial experience is highly desirable.
- Advanced knowledge of benefits regulations, market trends, and legislation, including ACA, ERISA, COBRA, and applicable DOL and tax laws.
- In-depth understanding of benefits administration and emerging benefits programs and practices.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently on complex, high-impact projects.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong working knowledge of MS Office required.
- HRIS benefits administration experience required; Paycom experience preferred.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment requiring strong multitasking skills.
- Proven discretion and professionalism when handling highly sensitive and confidential information.
