What are the responsibilities and job description for the GIS Technician position at Alamance County Government?
- Identify the location and make appropriate changes to the parcels of the Alamance County tax parcels using recorded deeds, plats, and other legal documents and ESRI ArcGIS Pro software to reconfigure the parcels by splitting, combining, or modifying/correcting parcel boundaries. Mapping changes are reconciled and posted to the default version nightly.
- Conducting deed and property research; preparing and maintaining digitized parcel maps and records; assisting the public; preparing map adjustments for Land Records
- Update Rights of Way changes utilizing NCDOT plans and documenting, organizing, and maintaining files and records.
- Primarily performs data quality control procedures and loading of spatial data into the system; performs activities in data transfer and translation; ability to import electronically, review/adjust preliminary and detailed spatial data into the GIS system.
- Assists workers with problems or questions in preparing maps or entering data in GIS systems.
- Designs and implements GIS maps based on user needs; preparation of presentation maps, charts, and graphs for the public and the Board of County Commissioners; supports Land Records and Tax Appraisers with updated daily mapping resources; assists governmental agencies in obtaining GIS maps.
- Performs other higher analytical work for the GIS department and supported departments as necessary.
- Assists in the training of lower skill level GIS workers in edit and entry procedures.
- Must be independent in decision-making and problem-solving.
- Assists in planning, implementing, and coordinating special GIS projects.

Computer Skills: Must be proficient with Intel-based PCs, and ESRI software (ArcMap/ArcGIS Pro), Microsoft Office software, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and have a working understanding of spreadsheets and databases. Desired experience includes Windows, Tax Systems, CAD-related software, Trimble GPS equipment, and property mapping methodology.
License/Credentials: Possession of a valid NC driver's license and the ability to maintain a safe driving history as defined by Alamance County policy.
