PRIMARY FUNCTION

Under the direct supervision of the Children & Youth Services Coordinator, assists with planning, outreach and implementation of programs and activities for APC children and youth, including implementation and daily supervision of programs designed for children aged 10 - 17. 


DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

    Assist the Children & Youth Services Coordinator with planning, publicizing and implementing afternoon, evening and community activities for children and youth living in APC housing.

    Supervise programs for groups of children aged 10- 17, including evening programs, enrichment/recreational activities, academic support, and childcare.

    Facilitate youth programs at least two nights per week and participate in APC community events on regular basis.

    Provide direct outreach and build rapport with youth and families in APC community.

    Recruit resident teens for youth programs and other APC support services such as employment development, substance abuse and other services. 

    Document all programs and services delivered through sign-in sheets and/or log notes, report any unusual issues or problems and write incident reports as needed. 

    Maintain confidentiality and appropriate boundaries at all times and comply with abuse reporting laws.

    Participate in case conferences when appropriate, providing pertinent information on status and development of youth.

    Provide youth referrals or participate in family or youth interventions/case plans in consultation with support services Coordinators, therapists and/or Support Specialists 

    Maintain program supplies, donations and facilities.

    Attend meetings regularly as scheduled and needed, including Support Services team meetings, agency staff meetings and clinical consultation meetings.

    Provide supervision, informal training and support to Activities Assistants and volunteers.

    Assist Coordinator in developing and maintaining positive relationships with Alameda youth organizations, schools and APC partner agencies.

    Other duties as assigned. 


QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

    Education, work or volunteer experience with programs serving youth (especially teens) in recreational, therapeutic, social services, and/or educational settings.

    CPR and First Aid training required.

    Fingerprint/background check clearance required.

    Knowledge or training about working with homeless, disabled or disadvantaged populations preferred.

    Ability to adapt work schedule to meet program and resident needs.

    Ability to work effectively in high stress situations.

    Effective written and verbal communication skills.

    Ability to bend over, sit on floor or engage in physical activities with children and youth.

    Ability to learn new tasks and/or systems. 

    Ability to speak and understand English.

    Reasoning and thinking skills and ability to problem solve.

    Occasional lifting of 10-20 pounds
